Halifax to the Cabot Trail without a car

There is no train. A shuttle van or the Maritime Bus takes you to Baddeck in about five hours, and a guided day tour drives you around the trail.

For two people, Friday to Sunday. Prices in Canadian dollars, checked 2 October 2026.

How the weekend fits

Rides to Cape Breton leave Halifax in the afternoon, and rides back leave Baddeck in the morning. So you need two nights: go Friday, tour Saturday, come home Sunday.

Leaving Saturday will not work. You would arrive Saturday evening, tour on Sunday, and the first ride home is Monday morning.

Your options

Baddeck is the village where the trail starts and where the day tour picks up, so every option ends there.

Book in this order

The tour is the piece most likely to fall through, so settle it first.

  1. Confirm the tour runs on your Saturday

I could not see October dates online, and it needs 4 people. Call Cabot Discovery Tours at (902) 623-2780 or email [email protected] before paying for anything else.

  2. Book two nights in Baddeck

Pick a place in the village so you can walk to the 8:45 AM pickup. The Celtic Colours festival runs 9 to 17 October, and rooms are scarce and pricier that week.

  3. Book the ride

Shuttle seats can sell out. If you are booking less than 72 hours ahead, phone to check there is space before you pay.

  4. If you take the bus, arrange the taxi

The bus arrives at 8:30 PM at a gas station in Wagmatcook, not in Baddeck. Book a taxi ahead for that night and for Sunday morning, or ask your hotel if they can collect you.
